About Me

Why I Want to Share My Writing Journey with You

My name is Katie Ballinger, and I am passionate about the art of storytelling. I earned my Bachelor’s Degree from the Mississippi University for Women in Creative Writing, where I earned Creative Writing scholarships all four years and took advantage of unique opportunities to meet other writers, submit to playwriting competitions (I placed in two of them), and publish poetry to the university’s magazine, The Dilettanti. Not only that, I also studied Music and Theatre, so I have learned and experimented with several different forms of storytelling. I was accepted into the English Department of Auburn University, where I currently work as a teacher’s assistant while I attend classes and workshops. I also assist the Southern Humanities Review by reading and judging submissions. And, on top of everything else, I am currently editting my first novel.
I have always been a storyteller, and I have been practicing writing ever since I was a kid. I have always been drawn to stories that move audiences to think about themselves and the world around them, and I want to create stories like that. I strive to create worlds that readers want to escape to and characters that they can relate to and want to learn more of.
I’m a writer. Like many people at the skill level as me, I struggle with granting myself that title because I haven’t published a book yet, but I’m learning to own it, and if you’re like me, you should to. I created this blog to share motivation and tips with other learning writers as I learn them. I want to share my writing journey with others as I learn about writing life on the personal and professional level. And more than anything, I want to share my work.
